Totally captures that "rock on" feel from, err... Rockman :D Totally love that machine-press-beat from 0:29 onwards. Great job, easy 5/5!

SourJovis responds:

Thanks man!

Mixing is awesome here, sounds on the front don't block any of the background and vice versa.
Personally I would have added a second track for the harp with -1 or -2 octave and lower volume to make it easier for the ear. There's alot of high notes with strings and the harp and it occassionally borders painfull to listen (because of the high pitch, not because of the track, mind you :P )

I listened to the original track and I like how you've taken this remix towards a "light" atmosphere (unlike the original which is pretty intense with beats and low strings boooming at you).

Awesome work, would and will listen again! :)

Rinibra responds:

I'm really proud of this one. I finally feel I know what I'm doing! Thank you!

I think it would need a modulation before the end. It would make the loop restart have a stronger impact. But that's just my personal view :)

Loistokamaa! ;)

Bloodtype8 responds:

That could be a good idea, I'll keep that in mind when making new loops. :D

Kiitokset! :)

Awesome track! I'll say right away that my field is heavily in the VGM so I'm probably not the best judge.
But anyway I feel like it would need a clear melody earlier on. Piano starts now at 2:35 but I found that I was anxiously waiting for that clear non-delayed melody as early as 0:55 when the track calms down.
Nothing much, just something to anchor my focus when listening, if you get what I mean :)

I also love the progression here, it doesn't get boring at all, instead you keep waiting where will it go next. Awesome job at that!

alternativesolution responds:

Oh, thank you for your review! As for having a melody, I will take your input into consideration when creating similar tracks in the future. I am glad you like the progression :)

Excellent work! It really borders on the edge of manic, made me feel paranoid atleast :D
Mixing in this track made me jealous. Also it's nice that at the second listening I started hearing instruments that I didn't notice on the first listening.

Honestly, can't find anything bad to say. Only thing that I wonder is; why is it so long? Alot could be left unheard if used in a game, which would just be wrong :)

OcularNebula responds:

Thanks for the review!

I actually didn't make this to explicitly be used in games, I just didn't know which electronic sub-genre to put this in. Closest I could think of was dance, but the bpm seemed to awkard for that, and it has kind of a video game mood, with a bouncy feel.

Still, even for a regular song, it's a bit on the long side, so I do agree it could perhaps use trimming/reshaping.

Alot of classic choices in the structures (small arpeggioish mainmelody, the piano at 2min~ etc.) BUT those are the things that make people listen VG music outside the games, and you nailed it here.

I have to criticize you on your choice of percussion here though. If you use electric noise or similar effects you should really consider using tighter snare sound on the drums. Using a fat snare like you've done here mixes up with the effects and makes it sound like the it's played through an old radio everytime the snare hits. Dun dun CSAHHH.

But I still liked the song, well done! :)

Ragezero responds:

Thanks for the feedback. I'll make sure to give some more thought to my snare next time around :)

I can't find anything really missing (hence the full score) BUT I would like to mention few ideas since you obviously rock in this claustrophobic field. A one high note playing very quietly adds to that panicky feeling in these tracks. Also I was missing that sudden drumfill (PAdadaTSAH, you know) to add some drama.

Otherwise the song develops well, not too fast and not too slow so that the listener would get bored. You deserve a perfect score, keep it up! :)

F4LL0UT responds:

Thank you. :) Indeed, there's a few things I could have added to make the track more menacing like the stuff you suggested. I will keep it in mind should I ever compose more music of this kind.

For a battle song I think it needs a bit higher tempo.
I would also add some brass to the lower end to make it sound more "full".

But as you can read from my score, you did hell of a job here, sincerely awesome! :)

foxhead128 responds:

Thanks! Yeah, I did have some concerns that it wasn't fast enough. I just upped the tempo, so enjoy!

I'd really like to know what kind of videogame concept you had in mind while doing this piece? :)
All in all it's a good track, but the feeling it's trying to translate into just doesn't hit me clear (sorry!!! :D)

But then again, most successfull VGmusic usually is tied to the concept where it plays (plot twists, overall atmosphere etc.)

I was going to give you 3,5 but, hell, it's so well done that you deserve 4. Cheers!

propfit responds:

well if anything i would say the track is about a journey that's what all of the tracks in this little EP of mine are about this one in particular is more about a character that believes they are in control of their lives but in reality they are hopelessly lost

Reminds me very much of Megaman X (4 and onwards on psx) style here. Excellent job!
I wouldn't change anyhting but if I really have to mention something that my ear picked up was the slow parts 0:39-0:52. Personally I would have added a muted guitar or similar sound to the background to keep the tension up. But that's just my opinion based on your own comment how this was supposed to be used on a shooter game :)

I'ts 5 stars from me. Keep it up!

DanJohansen responds:

Thanks for the kind words good sir.. glad you like it, I am a huge fan of game music myself, so now and then I want to make it. Again, thanks man :)

Composing videogame music is what I do. Gamer for life, otherwise.
